Frequently Asked Questions

Check out our FAQ list for helpful tips.

What time should I place my items out?

Your items need to be out by 6 am on your pickup day. Place your materials within 3 feet of the curb/roadway, even if you are accustomed to your driver coming later. Please don’t obstruct the containers from view or place them in a way that makes them difficult to get to. All containers need to be separated by at least 12 inches. If you are not able to get your items to the curb, please call our office for more information. Remember to remove emptied containers from the curb so they don’t block the sidewalk or blow away.

Does my garbage need to be bagged?

Yes. Please securely bag your garbage. Especially loose or dusty materials such as kitty litter, sawdust, animal waste, and packing peanuts before placing them in your can.

What about hazardous waste?

DO NOT dispose of hazardous materials in your garbage can. If in doubt, please call Metro at (503) 234-3000 for disposal information.

What do I do if my collection is missed or I forgot to put it out?

If your garbage, recycling, or compost is missed, please call our office within 48 hours at (503) 281-8736. *A return trip fee may apply.
